Low ‘T’

By on Aug 29, 2017 in Hormone Imbalance | 0 comments

Low T – the buzz word today of having low testosterone is  becoming quite an epidemic.  Many of my male patients are frustrated with low energy levels, poor focus, mood changes, weight gain, little desire for sex and even suffer with erectile dysfunction.  After blood work, there is evidence of very low testosterone.  They cannot understand how this happened to them, and what their options are to correct this problem. Sad to say…..most of them are 30 years old or younger! In the health care profession, we are noting a trend that on average, a young man in his 20’s and 30’s have a testosterone level lower than their grandfathers!! There are many reasons this could be happening.   Our environment is definitely not like it was in grandpa’s day!  Just having a little more understanding of the exposures out there that is destroying your bodies ability to maintain its balance in testosterone will help you move forward in fixing the problem. Dr. David Friedman talks of several exposures in a mans daily life that puts him at risk for low testosterone. “During the past decade, while men’s T levels have rapidly been declining, there’s been a proportionate increase in the use of laptop computers. ”  “In January 2012, the journal Fertility and Sterility published a study showing that men who have been exposed to a wireless internet-connected laptop showed a significant decrease in sperm motility and decreased fertility.  The solution?  Men should never put their laptop on their lap unless there’s a 12-inch cushion under the notebook, as this is about how far the EMF field transfers.  EMF shields are also available to put under laptops, which protects the body from these dangerous frequencies.” http://www.doctordavidfriedman.com/low-testosterone-could-your-cell-phone-or-laptop-be-to-blame/ Going on Testosterone replacement therapy in a man age 50 or younger, is not the best or safest option.  TRT – (testosterone replacement therapy) could place you at risk for heart attacks, strokes, and cancers later on in life. Come in and see me to discuss the best and safest option of treatment for you.  ...

Understanding Infertility Using a Functional Medicine Approach

By on Mar 26, 2017 in Fertility | 0 comments

Functional medicine is getting to the root of the cause of disease or a health imbalance.  Instead of chasing around a symptom, feeling miserable, not feeling any better; choosing to use a function medicine model helps to get right to the cause allowing you to fix the problem.  This includes infertility. If one could understand some of the different causes of infertility and how to apply the functional medical model approach, this would make an incredible difference for the chance of conception.   In the case of poly cystic ovarian syndrome, there are several disruptions that may be involved with the inability to conceive.  Did you know that your choice of eating a sandwich instead of a lettuce wrap could make a tremendous difference in your having a baby?  Or, taking that serving of lasagna instead of a salmon steak with broccoli?  For some of you suffering with poly cystic ovarian syndrome, that one decision in diet will determine if you are going to release an egg for that particular month. Just understanding a little more about food choices and the insulin testosterone balance may be life changing for you. For some of you who are facing quite a bit of daily stress, this extra release of cortisol is throwing your hormone balance so far off the chance of conception is slim to none.  If you do happen to conceive, the job of maintaining that precious window of implantation and the beginning stages of growth of the pregnancy is quite challenging, ending up in 1st trimester failure. To the newly married couples wanting to start out with their families, I caution you to understand how important the health of both mother and father is.  How is your overall health and wellness?  Is it in a condition to promise a good pregnancy outcome and a healthy baby?  What are you allowing to be part of your life – such as your diet, your exercise, your sleep, your stress, and your thoughts believe it or not, will affect your baby or your chances of conception. Infertility is on the rise…..both in men and women.  It is a big bad world out there, be wise in your endeavors and your life choices....

A Functional Medicine approach to BiPolar disease

By on Jan 26, 2017 in Mental Health | 0 comments

Looking into the brain with a functional medicine eye glass will give all bipolar sufferers a glimpse of hope.  There is a lot of research data available introducing the importance of Lithium for mental disturbances.  Lithium, however, is just one of the many nutrients the brain needs for optimal function. Eating a clean diet, avoiding processed foods and simple sugars along with mega dosing of the EPA/DHA has been proven to help with neurotransmitter function and decrease the bipolar swings. Using a functional medicine approach, we here at American Wellness & Rehab Clinic address the cause of bipolar disease.  Looking into the MTHFR gene is one of several tests that is included in our work up. Check out this short video for a introductory explanation of the MTHFR test we address for those who suffer bipolar or other mental health struggles.   I would be happy to help answer any questions you have or help you or your loved one work through this disease to help balance your mental health.  Please give me a call today Carol Stowell American Wellness Clinic 677 West 5300 South Murray, Utah 84123...

Liver Detoxification

By on Jan 26, 2016 in Blog | 0 comments

Hi everyone! Each one of us are bombarded with toxins – from medications we take to the daily chemicals that we are exposed to.  Amazingly enough, our Liver is there for us, every second of every day – neutralizing these harmful agents and flushing them from our body.  We all make choices in life that will lighten this toxic load or exacerbate it, making things worse. Today, I’d like to introduce a  video I found that explains what happens when our Liver begins to struggle with the job of detoxification.  When our body struggles with a heavy load of toxins, the bile salts within the liver get quite thick causing a mucky sludge.  This sludge will begin to affect our gallbladder, pancreas, small intestine….pretty much our entire gastrointestinal system.  Soon we are not absorbing the nutrients from our diet and our cells are literally starving!  After completing this video, you will have “the rest of the story”, giving you power to avoid, fix, or prevent this horrible monster from overtaking our health. I love functional medicine and I love taking care of chronic illness.  I would love to help you with any of your health problems.  Please give me a call!! Please check out this...
